Asia Argento grew up in Rome Italy. Her family is a group of actors as is she, herself doing both professions. As a young girl the actress made her acting debut in Sergio Cittis Sogni e bisogni. The role she played was the main one in Cristina Comencini's Zoo (1988) and appeared as a part of Michele Savi's 1989 film The Church. In 1989 she portrayed Nanni Moretti's child for the film Red Wood Pigeon. (Also directed by Moretti). The film Close Friends (1992), written and directed by Michele Placido, that Asia's career took off. she could transition from portraying very young girls to larger, more sophisticated roles. Cannes International Film Festival was a great achievement for the film. For Trauma (1993) the actress made her debut with her father, well-known Italian film director Dario Argento (her mother is among the most beloved actors of Argento, Daria Nicolodi, playing an obese girl on the lookout for her parents' killer. The Phantom of the Opera was the third film she acted in together with her father and the two other films were Trauma, and The Stendhal Syndrome. Her deep, absorbing acting style was well utilized in Giuseppe Piccioni's Condannato a nozze. Patrice Chereau was the director. Queen Margot and she was also in a key character. In 1995 she worked with Michel Piccoli in Peter Del Monte's Traveling Companion , which again brought her a David di Donatello and the Grolla d'oro. Asia began her career in 1994 as a director when she made two short films: Prospettive (1996), documentary about her father, and Abel/Asia (1998) which was a documentary on the legendary filmmaker Abel Ferrara. The latter won an award from the Rome Film Festival. Asia started directing her first feature film in 1999 with Scarlet Diva (2000). She was also the main actor, as well as the writer of the film's script. In May 2000, the movie was released both in Italy as well as around the world. It received a prestigious prize by the Williamsburg Film Festival in Brooklyn. Anna Lou was born in 2001, after having directed a few music videos.
